It's suprising how much stuff you can get behind the seats. When this pic was taken in Wales, we were enroute to Ireland for a week - two travel bags, some cleaning stuff etc with coats(hence lumpy middle).
Admittedly, was with a friend rather then missus though.
I bought one of those cables for locking a rucksack to a tree/post. I hook it under the passenger seat and lock a large Eastpack bag on my rear shelf, it holds more than I ever need.
