I spray the underside areas with either Dinitrol or Tectyl. I find these products easier to apply especially in cooler weather. I think MMC use Dinitrol but Tectyl is my usual choice; in aerosol cans. Agreed there isn't much point in re-coating ply/aluminium but if the stuff gets onto these surfaces, no harm is done.
