The insurance company required that the car be fitted with an alarm (rather ridiculous I know) so I decided to add a trigger circuit to the spare wheel. There is a waterproof long armed microswitch under the spare wheel bracket which is held in the off position by the tip of the securing bolt. Undo the bolt by about 5 turns and it triggers the alarm.

One other point to mention is that there are fuel lines running across behind the metal plate so it is necessary to avoid any sharp points or edges that could cause damage.
