Hello Paul, the book is called The Racing Driver and it was written by Denis Jenkinson. It's a wonderful book, the theme of which is an examination of the qualities required of a top class racer. It's full of anecdotes about Eric Oliver, world sidecar champ whom Jenks passengered and, of course, Stirling Moss.
Eric Oliver made a couple of appearances at VMCC Mallory Park races in the early 1970s. In 1972 I was on the front of the grid in my racing Morgan three wheeler with Eric Oliver alongside. I allowed myself to become distracted at the moment the flag dropped and Eric Oliver disappeared into the distance! Not just drove away steadily, but really disappeared. His reactions were that sharp. I came a long way second. Bill Tuer was racing his Morgan-JAP that day, but had some problems so didn't feature. Tuer Vs Oliver would have been wonderful.
Thank you Tony
