The Typhoon story is a good one, as is the one book I've read of a Typhoon pilot. They initially suffered engine failures because in a dive, the four bladed prop could over-rev the engine and they also suffered from structural failure of the tail until it was strengthened.
They were also very difficult to ditch, due to the wing thickness. But an iconic aircraft from WW2.

From memory they were about seven tons?
