The forward couple of inches and the rearwards four or five inches of the silencers appear to get up to similar temperatures to the unprotected sections of the exhaust pipes. The section of the silencer in between runs much cooler and won't take the skin off your bare hands instantly when you touch them, but I haven't tried keeping my hands on them beyond a quick touch. Entry and exit over the Stage one pipes without heat shields will take care in shorts or the kilt. Particularly the kilt.
