I got a super cheap single suction cup mount on Amazon and a Morgan Hat Lanyard from the MMCs online shop and I clip the lanyard around the roll hoop and have attached the other end to the mount. Suction it between the roll hoops and so far have not had it come undone...
That has the advantage of being less high versus on top of the roll hoop... any problems with the paint under the suction cup?
No, its a rather supple rubber and since you have to really clean the surface before you stick it down, there shouldn't be any dirt or grit to do any damage to the paint. I usually give the suction cup a good hot breath or two to help it adhere, and when it is removed you will have to wipe down where it was as it will leave a smudgy circle, but it wipes right off.
