Hmm, sounds exactly like a blown fuse to me, I suspect the grease in the wiper rack had solidified up a bit and caused the wiper motor to draw too much current - although having said that I've just spotted you're in Australia, so I don't think cold grease is going to be an issue!
MMC are renowned for not matching up the fuses with the way they are described on the fuse box, if it were me I'd pull every fuse and check it, regardless of what the labels said.
