Ah! Actually I didn't see it there. It's a common practice at American shows to require the car to have a fire extinguisher. I have to assume that there were incidents of Car-B-Qs in the past.

FYI, although quite pretty, this is a metal tire cover and I have to believe was atrociously expensive to manufacture. This, and the compound curves of the back deck, led the MMC to continue the flat panel (less labor, easier to produce), as used on the back of the production Series 1 2Str, on the production version of the Series 1 DHC.
