I worked for a major oil company on and off between 1981 and 2010.
1980 to 1995 the subsidised Golf away days and weekends were very difficult to get on and for some reason the managers always got signed up first.
1995 to 2002 there were always places available on the away days and weekends.
2002 to 2010 it was difficult to get that much interest in running away days and weekends.
Seems a similar reaction here.
