Maybe another quality comment:
I think that on the 2009 trads the rheostat does not control the illumination by directly varying the current to the illumination. Rather the "rheostat" seems to input its value into the CAN-bus of the vehicle, and the ECU then varies the voltage or current supplied to the illumination accordingly. Why do I think this? The rheostat turns very smoothly, but the illumination clearly goes in about 5 or 6 steps from relatively bright to dark.
BTW: does anyone know if there are still bulbs in the instruments, or do they have LED illumination?
