Have you thought of having a scooped bonnet fitted like the SS and ARP4? That would allow you to use the longer throttle bodies which must help with the torque.
I had a droning exhaust on my much loved 4/4.....it drove me round the bend on long journeys and I tried a number of bespoke silencers to try to change it. To no avail.
