Lets not get too worked up about this!
I wouldn't consider taking a grease gun on a road trip of 1000miles.
There's a huge difference between a thousand dry motorway miles, and a thousand miles of hairpins in pouring rain, which was almost how our Scottish trip turned out. On that occasion there was no change in steering feel, and a few pumps when we got home and all was well.
Obviously there are those of us who relish an hour under the Morgan, and there are those of us who would rather be somewhere else. So for the latter, the remote kit will do the job, but you still need to do a visual check from time to time.
The lower bush does most of the work and its surprising that the grease gallery is above that bush - into the cavity betwen the two bushes. The engineering is that the up & down movement pushes grease into the bushes and that's why the Mulfab bushes have spiral channels.
In the end if I have to do a kingpin job every five years it wouldn't bother me. Hopefully the kingpins I've replaced will last a lot longer.....................
I agree. I think every 1,000 miles is a very safe number. But with hard chrome king pins and bronze bushes I would use 5,000 miles as a guide. As I use Vesconite Hilube bushes I grease once a year and have gone as long a two years with many miles. Too bad that MMC did not explore some of the more modern materials to solve this problem.
