Well done vMog, top marks for perseverance ! I had the same problem of crackling on the sidescreens. After my experience of getting other issues resolved (including faulty speedo like yours), I thought I'd be wasting my time pursuing the sidescreens. I spent several days over Christmas stripping the coating off and am pleased with the result, but the aluminium is not protected now and takes a bit of maintenance to keep it looking good.
