Many thanks to one and all who bothered to answer despite there was an earlier thread (which I didn't find). The information was very useful..

As an addition: My "manual" for Borrani wire wheels suggests a torque of 270 NM.

By the way: After the struggle with the front wheels yesterday I fabricated my own breaking bar by drilling 2 holes in the spanner and bolting a sturdy 5 ft. square bar to it. Opening the rear wheel nuts with this was like cutting butter.
