Race practice was the scariest driving experience I've ever know....and then there was the race......
After the VSCC bodged up the start, we should have had a green flag sighting lap but instead we got a red light race start - this completely fooled the veteran racers, but not the novices like nippymog and me who saw the red mist and charged!! Anyway, we soon got red flagged and lined up again on the grid for our official race start.
This time the lights went red and the driver of the car directly in front of me held his arms up in the air to signify he couldn't start. The red lights went out and I found myself completely boxed in with race cars flashing past on each side. I instantly slipped from middle of the grid to last place :- (
Somehow I managed to do a bit of overtaking and caught up with nippymog in time to watch him spin off at Lodge corner....a very scary sight, but luckily he stopped just short of the Armco.
John Scruton in the other M3W also spun off on another corner and how I managed to keep on the tarmac I don't know as there was virtually no grip on any of the corners and I even had the tail wiggle going under the Dunlop bridge....which is a straight bit!
I caught a couple of the F Type race cars who were having a ding dong battle and decided to admire their racing technique from behind rather than risk getting mixed up in their fight as we were all pretty well matched on speed in those treacherous conditions
It was quite a Morgan Adventure and we were all grateful to get round intact....just!
