Could be the belt. An inch is on the looser side for Morgan.

Every now and then the compensator will readjust itself and that will feel a bit like ratcheting (slipping a tooth). That usually only happens at very low revs which is a no-no anyway. You have been warned.

I avoid burning out now as it's a great way to really wear out the rear tire which is a colossal pain to swap out.
