Have you actually been there Dave? It's unlike many small towns because of the wealth I guess but it's all under control and not at all in your face. SWMBO and I have been half a dozen or so times, just a day each time, as part of cruise itineraries....had some lovely walks (back when I could walk all day) around the back streets, my favourite was to catch the bus up to the palace and walk down the hill to the harbour front for lunch. The ships we were on would drop anchor in the bay and tenders would take us ashore alongside the Riva speedboat dealers....some serious stuff there! It's really not that bad at all, we had heard horror stories about prices but never found that to be the case, point in question I wanted to walk the circuit and we stopped cor coffee and a cake at the Cafe de Paris in Casino square, supposed to be eye watering in costs, we had a cake and coffee and a bottle of water each and it was under £20...which seems about fair to me.
We are probably bias as on our first visit there it was SWMBO birthday and sail away was dealayed as there was a firework display that night and lots of the locals came out to the bay in small boats and everything was reflected in the water, 20 degrees at midnight helped......top deck and drinking Moët....;-)
