Roger, I think Gibraltar getting a special status is probably easy, because its land frontier is with the EU. In Gibraltar's case it would be the Spaniards that could make it hard to implemente an agreement on such an easy "special status".
However, in Scotland's case everything is much more complex, because in that case the land border is with the UK. Similar to the Northern Ireland problem, but with a greater frontier and direct land contact to England.
I noticed today that David Cameron, replying to the SNP leader in Parliament, said that the best option for Scotland was to remain both in the EU and the UK. This baffled me, coming from the PM, because I really don't understand how that can be achieved.
