Some people go dressed period if you are into fancy dress.
You are strongly encouraged to go in period attire, or at the very least something smart. The majority do. This is nothing to do with "fancy dress", although a lot of people go for that too. You will not be looked on kindly if you show up in an anorak and Red Bull baseball cap.
