I agree. My car would be exempt under the 40 year rule but I'd like to see at least an annual test for brakes, lights, steering, and general safety. I always regard the present test as being good value for having the car assessed by someone independent.


I agree entirely. Maybe for older cars we could cut any of the non safety issues that might currently apply - anything to do with emissions for example. But a basic safety check makes sense for every vehicle. And if a vehicles performance is so poor as to make it a safety risk even if well maintained, then its private roads or museums only IMO
