This sort of legislation is the desease of democracy. Politicians are supposed to represent the people not control them - otherwise it's another form of government. Happening all over the civilised world at the moment.
It's all just displacement activity.
Instead of getting on and tackling the real problems that face society, such as getting the economy moving, addressing the unemployment issue, providing affordable housing & so on (which are all too much like hard work), they pass a load of laws, usually banning stuff or restricting people's freedoms, as it gives an impression that they are actually doing something.
