Unfortunately a fair slice of that price is the Luxury Car Tax.

VAT in Australia is 10% but there is a 33% additional tax on the value above the threshold, which is currently $64,132

Add to that the shipping costs, customs clearance etc and you have a significant cost increse over a UK vehicle. Also the Australian Design Rule compliance is a costly process and these costs must be recovered.

Interestingly there seem to be changes in the pipeline and from next year it may become much simpler and less costly to import a second hand vehicle.
