A582 according to John Worrall's "Original Morgan" is a Series II made between Oct 1955 and Nov 1960. Probably registered in the US in 1961. It should have a 3 speed gear box.......
Yes, it is a 3 speed gearbox. If you look closely at the photo below you can see the peculiar gear pattern.
The letters between the original purchaser and Fergus begin in February of 1961. Fergus seemed anxious to put the deal together, and gave the buyer a $200 discount on the purchase, almost 10%. Another letter from Fergus to the buyer in March of 1961 says that the Morgan was at their office in New York and ready to pick up. I think this little Morgan was a bit of a leftover from 1960...
I can scan and post the letters, invoices, and several sales brochures sent by Fergus at the time if they would be interesting to the forum. I'm new here so a bit unsure of the protocol.
