Apologies if I am being annoying, this may seem a daft question.

Are narrow bodied plus 4's relatively easy to get hold of, or do people tend to hang on to them thus making them rare?

From a aesthetic point of view I prefer the look of the 4/4, but engine wise I prefer the plus 4. Basically I cannot choose!

Hypothetically, would it be possible to buy a 4/4 and swap the engine, or is that really stretching the options?

As far as I am aware there is no difference in the width of the bodies, it is the width of the wings which make the difference to the 2 types.

It is the width of the wheels which dictate the width of the wings. I chose wire wheels for my + 4 so it came with the wider wings.

I could of course be completely wrong on this !!
