It does sound like rubber against the front mud guard. What else could it be, I wonder?
On my 2016 car both front mudguards sit over an inch too far inwards in relation to tyre. The tyre doesn't touch but wonder how MMC could have got this so wrong, as other cars I've seen are similar.
