I guess the issue was that the 1.6 was discontinued around 2005. Its power output is in the same ball-park as the Sigma that Morgan do use so would likely have done the job very well.
The mazda DOHC in the MX5 has to shift more weight than the Sigma does with Morgan so its perhaps unfair to compare them. They both respond to revs very well and are great power-units but i feel the Sigma is the slightly smoother engine. Also the mazda motor is keen to drink petrol in a way the Sigma just refuses to do...
I wonder what the Sigma would be like in my MX5? !!
