Thanks for the replies. The mechanisms all work smoothly and are well lubricated (car has done 6,000 miles from new). The bowden type cables are slightly slack when the hood retaining slider is in the locked position. When viewed from inside the spare wheel area it appears that the non-functioning slider doesn't move sufficiently towards the nearside when the hood is pushed down so its lip doesn't move under the upper edge of the cone that is a part of the hood pin/spring assembly. The working slider seems to cover more of the hole than the other one. I can't see an adjustment that would increase the movement of the slider across the hole. Any further suggestions gratefully received?
