My windscreen wipers intermittently wouldn’t stop when switched off. The problem was identified with the wiper motor assembly removed, the circlip which holds the gear drive spindle in place had gone missing which allowed the shaft to move (part no. 4 in this diagram
http://www.s-v-c.co.uk/wiper-systems/ ). This play I suspect allowed the ‘park stop’ to move to a position where it couldn’t function.
