Ford engines after 1965 ish are in my experience reliable. That's the 1500 pre cross flow and even better, the 1600 cross flow. As with any old engines modern improvements make maintenance easier e.g. electronic ignition, coil, plugs, leads and carburetor if it's not a Webber type.
