I was told to stop when you see the grease bulging out of the spring, then wipe off a bit nearest the disk brake with a piece of card and wipe that under the bit where the damper blade meets the chassis

Matty at Lifes showed me what he did and I've being the same since

Stewart, Phil at Allon Whites told me to lever up the bronze plate/damper blade mount and grease until it comes through the gap. This also putsgrease there to help keep the steering lighter. Only raise 2mm or so. I use a Clarke pneumatic grease gun from Machine Mart. I also have a smaller Clarke hand lever one to carry on long trips if needed.
