I am now very careful about that. My bit of patina is no-longer as I had the rim re-wooded to match my new dash drive

I nearly always were gloves when driving with a wood rimmed wheel. Heavy padded gloves in winter, light leather gloves in spring and autumn, and mesh backed gloves in summer.
