Your overheating has been lost in the attack - as suggested cures blocked radiator core, head gasket and bad temperature gauge I think were the suggested possibles.
All good suggestions. First I'd establish independently of the gauge whether it's actually overheating, and if not look at the instrument voltage regulator and then the gauge itself.
