Wheels off: MucOff, warm water, Autoglym wheel brush (designed not to scratch paint) then pressure wash on my 4/4's painted wires.
I've got one of those Autoglym wheel brushes, and very good they are too, but I found there were still nooks and crannies full of dirt even after using it - hence the second going-over with the foam brush.
But I suspect that just goes to show I let my wheels get filthier than you do
