You'll get as many opinions on this matter as there are days in the year.

In my experience there is no substitute for reading the weather charts combined with refering to the Met Office website.

Reading weather charts isn't difficult once someone has explained it and allows one to determine the likely accuracy of a local forecast.

My impression is that the BBC's forecasting has become less accurate of late due, I will wonder, to them moving their contract with the Met Office elsewhere.

As regards apps, I do not use them either for sailing around the Welsh coast nor for day to day stuff. I find them insufficiently reliable.

Remember that the weather forecast is only a prediction.
