BTR (was Borg Warner) plant was situated in Albury Wodonga which is about half way between Sydney and Melbourne.
They not only built axle /diff assemblies but some fairly sophisticated transmissions ( I think Maserati at one stage but I stand to be corrected. they also supplied Ford Australia.
I had been involved at various times with BTR supplying materials handling equipment with them.
Just the demise of another manufacturing industry in Australia-soon we will not have a car industry in Australia, Ford is finished, Holden going, Toyota gone!


BTR used to be the British Tyre and Rubber company but like most all of the rest of the UK component manufacturers it was bought out as the industry here declined. At one point it included Dunlop tyres and Hawker Siddely. I dont think it ever had anything to do with Borg Warner.

It was a conglomerate in the days when conglomerates run by accountants were fashionable in the city.
