Is the only real cross check against the historic recorded MOT mileage then ?
Not really. Most clocking goes on before the MOT due date for that very reason.
Thanks for the information - I think !
So new car or post 3 years then I guess.
prompted by this thread I typed "car mileage correction device" into ebay and got several different ones in the £200 to £350 range.
what price a low mileage car?
Political incompetence has resulted in a collapse in the residual value of diesel cars.
OK its normal to blame politicians for everything but I wonder where you see "incompetence" here.
My point is that either MB can build these cars for way, way less than £56k (In which case why are they pitching the ticket price so high?) or it's not going to be sustainable in the long-term.
I really hope the PCP bubble doesn't burst the way that PPI did, but at the moment the signs are all there, and unlike the banks I'm not entirely sure the motor manufacturers will be able to survive it so easily...
The ticket price is the price that Joe Public is offered - fleets have always bought at a lot less than that. And of course there are two costs of manufacture - the full cost including all overheads and the marginal cost which for a huge mass production outfit like MB is way lower.
That said this situation smells just like then mortgage situation of the last financial crisis or the bad lending of previous financial crises. I've lost count of how many bank crises I have gone through but they all have the same nature. A lending practice that starts off as a sensible idea, becomes a fashion and gets out of hand driven by poor management control and incentives.
