ANPR is a good tool but has limitations. In our Ops room at Police HQ the cameras were all linked to a single console.
The main targets were vehicles with a marker for some reason, known drug dealer, stolen, particular suspect surveillance etc..
There are insufficient resources to deal with every hit.
So, an automated system would be needed to manage the “simple” transgressions for MOT/VED/ insurance. There would also need to be a filtering to ignore some fehicles for police defined reasons such as ongoing surveillance etc so as not to jeopardise ongoing investigations. The ping for such vehs would be added to intel logs.
I would not be unhappy for speed cameras to also have the tech to administer the system, not just speed.
