I used to sell WiFi to a lot of the Unis and met most of them - Exeter was always good. I guess you will like it as Auckland was not too different in feel when i last went there. Exeter itself is compact but very enjoyable. When I visited I felt it was best likened to a slightly less crazy version of Brighton with a lovely vibe in the summer evenings.
