Parcel in the post this morning from Mr Rutter with my new £3.50 replacement clutch return spring. So this afternoon I eagerly dived down into the foot well and stripped the pedal assembly out. As I was removing it I spotted it - OMG!

Today's conundrum. Take a look at the second photo. Does anybody know how the spring is supposed to be replaced? Has anybody changed one? Even if it could conceivably be unwound to enlarge the i/d it would surely over stress the tangs. Its very stiff.

Broken spring

New spring to be assembled???

I wound a new spring on in the end. However it is very difficult to work out how and which end to start winding. To make matters worse if you start in the wrong place/end you cannot back pedal and unwind without knackering the spring.

Tip... Make a copy of the spring first out of an old coat hanger or bit of soft wire and have a practice.
