Loads of motorhomes and campers do the NC500 although I believe it was conceived as a cycle touring route.
april/may (check snow): good
june and september: perfect
october: we had a bit too much rain
sometimes single lane, but I can assure you, even the 4th day you will still be surprised by the beauty of nature, I drove it twice and cruised it (with GF) last octobre, some of the best days in a car!!!
