Thanks for sharing your project. I've been thinking about something similar for my 1959 DHC, and I like your solution.
I think I have a better design (Not My Work) for Your '59 DHC. It is a plywood box under the gas tank. You must remove the spare for access. Holds Side Windows plus Stuff.
