Sorry - but I feel responsible for this - the gas boiler packed in this morning and so we are resorting to 2x electric fan heaters, kettle & shower for hot water.
Have you checked that the condenser pipe isn't frozen? I know nothing about boilers but I just saw it posted on Facebook, gas boilers everywhere are breaking down because of it. Some hot water on the white pipe outside is apparently what it needs.
Glad you have a fix date. My parents, who are both in their eighties, are also without a boiler and have been trying to contact Brtish Gas since 7.15 this morning, with no luck. The "book an engineer" link on the BG website was disabled around lunchtime.
