That is the basis of most car insurance. When my Son's Clio was written off the insurance company loss adjuster identified 3 similar cars for sale within 50 miles of here and averaged the price. It was very fair and allowed him to buy a new one.

My view is that only if the car is sufficiently rare to make it difficult to achieve a proper market valuation is it worth having an agreed value in place. Many, but not all, Morgans will fall into that classification.
