I am constantly baffled by the running temperature of my engine. why does it need the urban cooling kit? They don't need one when installed in a bike. Is skip fire mode something to be relied on in extreme conditions or is it something to be avoided? Recently, on a trip in to the Lake District in hot weather ( at last!) and heavy traffic the engine got quite hot but not hot enough for skip fire to initiate, a plastic bag being carried under the bonnet and touching the oil tank, melted.

I have ordered an inline sender and oil temperature gauge to get some figures but what should they be? is this overheating issue to do with the exhaust pipe configuration? they do, after all glow red hot, surely that isn't normal?

lots of questions but here is the last one - has anybody got a set of unused factory standard exhaust pipes I could buy to experiment with please? I am thinking of baffle design changes or complete removal, I know some people have done this. I would like to make some changes and log the results for publication.
