Wooden boats a, they require mammoth dedication with lots of money over many years.
For a long time I was not only a skipper, but the volunteer co-ordinator for the Norfolk Wherry Trust. At the end of the sailing season, I would take the old girl "Albion" down to Lake Lothing where, through out the cold, wet, winter months we would work away repairing and replacing long, steamed lengths of oak in the hull then re taring it all ready for the next season.
It is a very satisfying "hobby" but knocks hell out of poor old joints.
