I am in a similar position to yourself and have considered the same course of action. I discussed this issue with a local Solar PV installer and also my neighbour who is a farmer with with a 50 acre array.
The battery packs currently on offer all seem to be Lithium Ion. I am lead to believe that the next big step forward will be Solid State batteries and that step is not too far away. I am prepared to wait for the increased efficiency of the latter.
I believe that Morgan are also planning on putting Solid State into their 3 wheeler EV.
