There is a product in UK called Mifold which works by managing the seat belts and fitting to child, rather than booster seats which raise the child to fit the belts.
This means that the child actually sits on the seat base.
Useful to keep them out of the air flow.
The unit is very compact. Suggest you look at this.
I believe it is fully compliant with UK standards etc, but please dont take my word for it !!
We have a couple which we use as backup if need to move the grandson and proper child seats not available. He is only 5 so only as an emergency as is still bit young for a booster.
I like the principle.
