we've just finished a trip to scottish highlands and a fast return leg to alps through germany. That's obviously a fair distance but i was a little surprised by just how far!
If i'd have thought it through beforehand i would probably have suggested alternative plans, but we're back and happily in one piece. and ready to plan next year's trip. lessons learnt:
- with a mixed tour of driving, activities and days off you can easily achieve quite long distances overall. but,
- long motorway stints can be painful. maybe plan the long legs cautiously next time. our german leg wasn't fun because the weather turned cold, wet and windy. 400km per day at the end of the tour with trucks on busy autobahns...
- OH doesn't drive and so 'owns' the spacious passenger footwell. she'll reconsider "one extra bag won't hurt. i've plenty of space in there..." next time!
- after a month away a normal car feels like a Rolls Royce. So, drive a Morgan and feel like a king when you get back. for a few days.

And of course, everyone talks to you.
