Rather depends on the roads.
When I come back from my brothers place in France I drive around 350 miles in the day to the ferry at Caen. My (classic) car is very comfortable and the trip is very little effort due to the quiet roads and "open" scenery.
After an overnight ferry it's almost the same distance home from Portsmouth. What a difference ! Due to the traffic and the enclosed nature of our motorways I find it very tiring.
